New Chapter House Update

A letter from Fundraising Committee Chairman, Jason Newcomb:

Brothers,

As some of you may know, we met with the representatives from Virginia Tech this past week about building a new home in Phase IV of Oak Lane, and I promised an update.

The meeting itself was very preliminary. Ethan Crockett, President of the Rho Alpha House Corporation; Delk Koolman, Chapter President; and I met with Byron Huges, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life; and John Torget, Assitant VP of Leadership Gifts and Annual Giving.  We definitely got the sense they get these meetings at least once or twice a year with organizations that are not ready to move forward.

Once they established our Chapter was serious and had the organizational groundwork in place to move forward, they committed to circle back with their decision makers and determine next steps and set expectations from there.  Since both John and Byron both came to their positions years after the Sig Ep house was built, neither were sure what the next steps were, how much the University is willing to match, or much information about the deal Sig Ep was given for their house.

The University has committed to getting us more information before the end of the month.  Once they have identified their process, we will pass on that information to our Brothers.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All the best,
Jason T. Newcomb
Chairman of the Rho Alpha Fundraising Committee
